Nostalgia Arrives at McDonald’s!

It’s August 12, 2025, and McDonald’s just pulled us straight back into childhood. All that’s missing is the PlayPlace and the smell of warm apple pies drifting through the air. The gang’s all here: Ronald, Grimace, the Hamburglar, Mayor McCheese, Birdie and the Fry Friends, ready to turn an ordinary lunch run into a full-blown nostalgia trip.

The new McDonaldland Meal is basically a Happy Meal for grown-ups:

  • Choose a Quarter Pounder with Cheese or 10-piece McNuggets with fries
  • A pastel-blue mystery shake topped with pink whipped cream (rumor says blue raspberry + vanilla)
  • One of six collectible tins filled with postcards, stickers and a faux McDonaldland passport

The fun doesn’t stop at the counter—McDonald’s teamed up with Pacsun for character-themed apparel and Away for limited-edition luggage tags and charms (launches Aug 18th).

Grab merch from collabs with Pacsun and Away to show your McDonaldland pride.

This will be the first time in more than 20 years that Ronald, Grimace, Birdie and crew are making a full appearance. McDonaldland first captured imaginations in the ’70s and ruled kid culture through the ’90s. Now, it’s back for a limited time—so grab your meal, snag your tin, and relive the magic while you can.

As Jennifer “JJ” Healan, McDonald’s VP of U.S. Marketing, Brand, Content & Culture, explains:

“Over the past few years we’ve seen how fans flock to our characters, everyone from Grimace to the Hamburglar. But many, especially the new generation, don’t know that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There’s an entire magical world of McDonaldland filled with characters, places and lore. And so, for the first time in decades, we are taking fans on a trip to McDonaldland with an immersive experience that taps into the past to create the future. It’s a chance for us to give fans a new, modern way to experience this magical world.”

Whether you’re after the mystery shake, the collectible tins, or just the warm hit of nostalgia, McDonaldland’s revival is proof that some childhood favorites never truly fade—they just wait for the right moment to make a grand return.
